Indian restaurant on Milsom Street, Bath
Bath’s Indian restaurant since 1987
Bengal Brasserie has been a fixture on Milsom Street since 1987, a quiet constant in one of Bath’s most discerning addresses. Our Indian restaurant is now under new ownership, we are reimagining what Indian dining can be: precise, confident, and rooted in the authentic flavours of the subcontinent.

This is not a reinvention. It is a refinement. The recipes that built our reputation remain: elevated, considered, and cooked with the same devotion to quality that has defined us for nearly four decades.
Curry house favourites in Bath
Alongside our chef’s specials, our menu has all the curry house classics: Chicken Tikka Masala, Korma, Jalfrezi, Madras and Dhansak, plus Kashmiri Lamb Rogan Josh, North Indian Butter Chicken and our biryanis. All of our meat is halal. See the full food menu.
Luxury Indian dining in the heart of Bath
Every dish is made to order, and our spices are ground in our own kitchen. We believe the best Indian restaurant in Bath is defined by careful cooking and a warm welcome. Our regulars still have their curry house classics, while the rest of the menu now reaches from Kerala to Kashmir.
A kitchen that comes to your table
Our chefs do not stay behind the kitchen door. They come out to talk guests through their dishes: where each one comes from, the spices behind it and how it is made. Among the Indian restaurants in Bath, we believe that is what sets us apart.
Regional Indian cuisine and chef’s specials
Kerala, in the far south, inspires our coastal fish curry of sea bass, coconut milk and curry leaves. From the north come paneer tikka masala in the Punjabi and Lucknowi style, an aromatic Kashmiri lamb rogan josh and a North Indian butter chicken cooked with several base sauces. All of them sit among our regional Indian curries, alongside kadhai king prawns, wok-tossed with onions, tomatoes, peppers, ginger and garlic.

The Kashmiri lamb rogan josh is the one our regulars come back for, tender lamb slow-cooked and braised in a rich gravy with garlic, ginger and aromatic spices. It is, we think, the best curry in Bath.
Our breads run from plain naan, baked in the tandoor, to garlic, Peshwari and keema naan, and tandoori roti, lachha paratha and a gluten-free roti complete the list. Biryanis come with chicken, lamb, vegetables or a special mix of king prawns, lamb and chicken.
Street food from India’s bazaars
Pani puri and the samosa and chickpea chaat come straight from India’s street stalls, and a classic onion bhaji is a vegan way to begin. Ajwaini chicken tikka, dill-seasoned salmon with red pepper chutney and gingery, charcoal-grilled tandoori lamb chops make a more substantial start.

From the tandoor, our Bombay chicken wings come with blood orange and mint yoghurt, and our Jaituni paneer tikka is seasoned with herbs, spices and olive oil. We also make Nepalese momos by hand, with vegetables or chicken, and serve them with Schezwan and tomato chutney. Shared across the table, a few of these make a light lunch in Bath or an elegant start to a longer meal.
Vegan curries and gluten-free dishes
Our vegan curries have a section of the menu to themselves, including Amritsar chickpeas, tadka daal and baby aubergines slow-cooked with tamarind and jaggery. For vegetarians, we also cook Punjabi saag paneer, kadhai paneer and a daal makhani of black lentils, slow-cooked overnight.
